 Andrew Hobson - Art Teacher

Mr. Hobson is from the Navajo Indian Reservation and has been teaching Art at Ira Hayes High School for two years. Prior to this, he taught Physical Education at Va Ki Middle School. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University. During the time Mr.Hobson lived in Massachusetts, he attended boarding school where he played football as well as track and field events. He was a member of the University of Arizona track and field team in 1999. Mr.Hobson's hobbies include playing the guitar, weight training, and competing in the Scottish Highland Games. |

 Leigh Myers - English Teacher

Leigh Myers was born in Florida and raised in southeastern Ohio. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Communication from Ohio University in 2001 and Masters in Education from University of Phoenix in 2005. This is Ms. Myers' third year working with students from the GRIC community and her first year teaching at Ira H. Hayes High School. In her spare time, she enjoys photography, music and traveling. |

 Matt Lentz - History and Social Studies Teacher

Matthew Lentz was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and has lived most of his life in the state, including being stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona during his military career. He received his BA in education with an emphasis on History from Arizona State University and his MA in Education from the University of Phoenix. He has been a teacher for 13 years and made the decision to teach for the Gila River Indian Community 4 years ago. He currently teaches guitar and History here at Ira H. Hayes and German for the Maricopa County Community Colleges. Mr. Lentz has been selected to be included in Who’s Who in American High School Teachers 5 times in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2005. He was an exchange teacher in Nagold, Germany and was in the US Army's 11th Signal Brigade from 1987-1990. |

 Jennifer Montijo - Math Teacher

This is Ms. Montijo’s fourth year at Ira Hayes High School. Ms Monitjo was born and raised in Casa Grande, Arizona. In 2003, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She currently resides in Phoenix and is working on a Master’s degree in Counseling. In her spare time she enjoys listening to music, working out and spending time with friends and family. |

 Eugenia Apkaw - Pima Language and Culture Teacher

Ms. Apkaw was born and raised in lower Santan Arizona and has lived there all her life. She retired from nursing in 1999 and started teaching Pima language in 2005. Pima language was Ms. Apkaw’s first language and she is also fluent in O’OTham ne’oki. Ms. Apkaw enjoys sewing, cooking, listening and dancing to chicken scratch music. She also likes to sing with the groups of traditional Pima singers. |
